One of our users is plagued with Excel crashes. Excel will crash randomly while in the middle of various random unrelated actions, anything from clicking on a cell, printing, clicking open, save - no consistency whatsoever that we can find. The only Excel files this user uses are exactly the same files as others in the same team. No other users are having issue with those files. The issues started when the user was on Office 2013 (365 pro plus). We have tried: repairing the install removing via removal tool, then full re-install upgrading to 2016 changing the user's PC, setting up from scratch, new install! And still the issues persist. I had the same problem with one of my user's and it turned out to be my AV software. They were using a big excel file and every now and again their av would crash and restart automatically. Usually not a problem and everything was ok. On rare occasions when they had the excel file open, the AV would crash, excel would write into that memory space and when the av restarted it couldn't load into the memory space as excel had taken it so it would crash the pc and blue screen. It appeared that Excel was the cause as that was always open when the pc crashed but the underlying issue was the anti virus. We have the same issue happening with a couple computers in my office. It is weird, but I found a fix online that somewhat helped. That fix was that I went to Internet Options in Internet Explorer and changed the Proxy Settings. Go to Internet Tab, Connections, Lan Settings, after you do that you can uncheck 'Automatically Detect Settings' and choose your own proxy server. I am not saying that it will really help, but I found it online somewhere and that seemed to help a bit with what is happening at my office. For the reason you found fixed the issue I would recommend you tell your end users about the Office update option in all of the apps File menu. Due to 2016 being a relatively new build (Preview released last Aug, RTM in Sept) I would urge you to keep those installs on the cutting edge as they are fixing bugs and updating features at a rapid rate, so staying current will keep any challenge like this to a minimum.
